Analytics

Analytics turns questionnaire answers into charts and dashboards. Clinicians get a ready-made dashboard for each questionnaire in a few clicks; analysts can build datasets, charts and dashboards by hand and combine questionnaire scores with clinical data from a connected EHR.

Concepts

ConceptWhat it is
DatasetThe columns available for one questionnaire: each question, each scoring variable and function, and submission metadata such as date, enrollment and respondent type. With an EHR connected, clinical columns (observations, conditions, medications, encounters, appointments) can be added.
ChartOne visualisation over a dataset: chart type, the columns on each axis, aggregation and time bucketing, filters, annotations and appearance. A chart must be published before it can be placed on a dashboard.
DashboardA grid of published charts with dashboard-wide filters. A dashboard linked to a questionnaire appears in that questionnaire's Results → Charts tab and on each patient's Results tab.

The quick way: the dashboard wizard

From a questionnaire's Results → Charts tab, choose Create dashboard. The wizard:

  1. Dataset: extracts columns from the questionnaire's questions, scoring and metadata (or reuses the existing dataset). If the questionnaire changed, Refresh dataset regenerates the columns.
  2. Charts: suggests charts from the structure of the questionnaire, with a reason for each: an engagement baseline (submissions over time), a trend for every numeric scoring variable, distributions for categorical questions, comparisons across respondent types, and correlations between pairs of numeric variables. Deselect what you do not need.
  3. Review: name the dashboard and decide whether to publish it immediately.
  4. Finalize: creates and publishes the charts and the dashboard, then offers to open the editor for fine-tuning.

Scoring variables named after common instruments are recognised and receive clinical severity bands automatically (for example PHQ-9, GAD-7, WHO-5, VAS pain and NRS fatigue scales).

Building by hand

The Analytics page has three tabs.

Datasets

Create a dataset for a questionnaire with Auto-generate, or define columns manually: label, source (question, scoring variable, scoring function, metadata or clinical resource), data type and path. Replace existing mapping rebuilds a dataset after structural changes.

Charts

The chart editor works on one dataset and shows a live preview.

SectionOptions
Chart typeLine, bar, scatter, pie, box plot, heat map, radar, gauge
ConfigurationDrag columns from the palette onto axes and series; aggregation; time bucketing; dual Y axis
FiltersEquality, comparison, range and list operators on any column; a filter can be parameterised so its value is chosen at view time
AnnotationsMark lines, mark areas, mark points, visual maps and clinical range presets
Chart optionsSmooth lines, area fill, stacking, symbols, labels, jitter, gauge progress
AppearanceLegend, colours per column, display configuration

Publish makes the chart available to dashboards. Editing a published chart requires publishing again.

Dashboards

The dashboard editor is a canvas of rows. Drag published charts from the picker into a row, set each cell's width and height, add or remove rows. A dashboard can be linked to a questionnaire so that chart management is scoped to it. Create chart opens an inline chart editor without leaving the dashboard.

Viewing dashboards

Dashboards render from live data every time they are opened. Viewers can:

  • set a global date range with the slider,
  • use the dashboard's filters (parameterised chart filters appear here),
  • click a data point in one chart to filter the others (cross-chart filtering), with an active-filter bar to clear selections,
  • on a patient page, see the same dashboard scoped to that patient's submissions and enrollments.

Demo mode replaces real data with generated data so a dashboard can be demonstrated on an instance without submissions. A banner shows while it is active.

Clinical data in analytics

When a patient is linked to a clinical source, datasets can include clinical columns (for example a lab value over time) and charts can combine them with questionnaire scores on a shared time axis. Reference ranges from the source are added as annotations automatically. See Clinical Sources (EHR).

Permissions

Viewing requires analytics read rights; creating datasets, charts and dashboards requires analytics write rights; deleting requires analytics delete rights. See Users, Roles & Scopes.
