Submissions & Results

A submission is one completed pass through a questionnaire (or the sections included in a schedule) by one respondent. Medipal stores the answers, the scoring output and metadata such as when and from where it was received. Results can be explored per questionnaire, per patient and, for your own enrollments, per user.

Per questionnaire

Open a questionnaire and go to Results. Three tabs are available:

Data

A table of all submissions with Patient, Submitted at, Score, Source and a View action. Filter by source:

SourceMeaning
DeviceSubmitted from the mobile app.
WebSubmitted from the web app (for example a user answering their own enrollment).
APISubmitted programmatically or through an anonymous link.

Chart-driven filters (date range and filters coming from dashboard interactions) are shown under Active filters and can be reset individually or all at once.

Charts

The analytics dashboard attached to this questionnaire, scoped to All patients, one Patient or a Cohort, with a date-range filter. See Analytics for how dashboards are built.

Dataset

The tabular view of this questionnaire's results used by charts. Generate dataset creates columns from the questionnaire structure; you can rename columns, Add column from a question, a scoring variable, a scoring function, submission metadata or, when an EHR is connected, clinical data, and Regenerate after the questionnaire structure changes. Datasets in use by charts cannot be deleted until the charts are repointed.

Per patient

Open a patient and go to Results:

  • Submissions: every response by this patient, filterable by questionnaire and by enrollment, with a View action.
  • Charts: score trends over time per questionnaire; a trend line appears from the second scored submission.
  • Calendar: submissions and upcoming slots on a calendar.

The patient's Enrollments tab shows each enrollment's questionnaire, version, dates and status.

Submission preview

View opens the submission preview with three tabs:

TabContents
AnswersQuestion text, question type, the answer and the time it was answered, in questionnaire order.
ScoringEvery variable with its label, type, description and final value.
PayloadThe complete stored record, useful when verifying an integration.

Your own submissions

Users who are themselves enrolled (for example staff testing a questionnaire) find their enrollments and submissions under User Profile → My Questionnaires, including an Answer now button while a slot is open.

Home dashboard

The clinician overview on Home summarises results across your patients: overdue questionnaires (Needs attention), today's agenda with answered and pending slots, results from the last seven days with scores, and counts of active patients.

Rules worth knowing

  • Submissions are only accepted for published, non-archived questionnaires and active enrollments.
  • One-time and scheduled slots accept one submission per slot; spontaneous schedules accept any number within the enrollment window.
  • Answers submitted from the mobile app while offline are queued on the device and delivered when connectivity returns; the recorded time is the time the patient finished, not the upload time.
  • Submissions are immutable. Corrections are made by a new submission, not by editing.

Exporting

Results can be exported through datasets and dashboards in Analytics, through the API (see API Access), or pushed to other systems automatically with Webhooks and Workflows.
